Communicator Web Access Login Issues

Hi all, I'm having an issue with Office Communicator Web Access with various users unable to log into the web service.

I have Live Communications Server 2005, Standard edition installed on Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1. Users are able to log into LCS via Office Communicator 2005 successfully - pass-through authentication works as expected. I have also installed Office Communicator Web Access (CWA) on the same server as LCS 2005. The server is a member server with no other applications installed on it.

When some users attempt to log into CWA, either using NTLM or Forms-based authentication they receive the following error in the browser:

[quote:9e00482476]A server error has occurred. Please try again. If the problem persists, please contact your system administrator.[/quote:9e00482476]

The following event can also be logged on the LCS/CWS server, but this does not happen at every failed logon attempt:

[quote:9e00482476]Event Type: Error
Event Source: Communicator Web Access Authentication
Event Category: (2100)
Event ID: 50004
Date: 14/11/2006
Time: 1:51:25 PM
User: N/A
Computer: CLALCS01
Description:
While a Communicator Web Access user was being authorized, multiple user objects for the user were found in Active Directory.

AD query filter used:
Virtual Server name: Internal Communicator Web Access

At this stage, I have generally been able to find that for those users who cannot login, there is another user with the same first name. It works like this: If I have two users: John Brown and John White, the user who can log into CWS is John Brown. It generally appears to be that users who have a name that will appear first alphabetically will be able to logon, but I'm not yet convinced that this is related.

Has anyone seen this issue or have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
